I’m proud to announce a friend & I recently purchased Coconut Harry’s Surf Shop! Coconut Harry’s is a legendary surf shop (in Nosara, Costa Rica in case you were unaware) which has been open for over two decades. Harry Heinke was the original Coconut & also is a long time friend. He is going to be hanging around the shop when he comes back to town in January & be a figure in our media. I’m thinking Santa Claus Harry & all kinds of things to have fun with. Coconut Steve finally decided to sell after a long time (he purchased about 2007 or so). He’’s ready to move onto the next phase in his life & we’re super excited to be the ‘new coconut’s’ per se. Therefore, I’m focusing
Quick FYI to everyone: I tried to ignore the ‘Coconut Rich’ moniker but it happened quickly. After fighting it at first, I have to admit it is starting to grow on me. I’m super happy about this high season as a surf shop owner & I actually think the Nosara Podcast, This Week in Nosara & my real estate business are all going to benefit a good bit.
It took me 49 years… But I’m thrilled to report my ‘day job’ is finally 100% in my element: I absolutely love surf shops, surf culture, & surfing itself is my biggest passion, which is closely followed by playing music. Which is why we’re adjust the surf shop into Coconut Harry’s Surf & Music Lounge. We’ll be a place for local and visiting musicians to hang & jam & also be adding small studio. Let me be clear it’s not like Harmony Recording Studio. This is super basic & I was even thinking of naming it B Flat Music Studio, or C Minor, or Redneck Music Studio (I might need to work on that one), etc.
The partners are Engineer Jim & myself. We have worked together at Surfing Nosara for the past seven years or so & are both diehard surfers who surf daily & adore surf shops. We’re thrilled about what’s happening & we’re bringing the shop back to the spirit of its early days as we transform it into Coconut Harry’s Surf & Music Lounge.
Why am I doing this? Simple: I am a surfer and musician. These are my passions and what I do more than anything else outside of working. At Surfing Nosara, our job is selling real estate, vacation rentals & surf photography. I make my living in real estate, which I plan to do a great deal of this upcoming high season because we have some serious bills to pay 🙂
But my daily life is surf, play music, work (real estate & now surf shop), serve the community (mainly via Nosara Podcast) & capture the community as a whole via This Week in Nosara all while stepping into my new chapter ‘Coconut Rich.’
Stop by to say hi, score some surf gear deals and check out what we’re doing and then stay for some live music! Or better yet, pick up and instrument and lets make some music together. I’m not too big on cover songs & am a super huge fan of improvisation. Stop by when you get into town!
