The last week in October has been a fun here in Nosara. Plenty of good weather & surf to go around with light crowds. This is going to change once the US election ends and we get into mid November. In the meantime, get out there and enjoy it while you can. I even rode a shortboard which I normally don’t use in Guiones.
Nosara Civic Association (NCA) Covirena program is officially launched. Their objective is to explain & enforce the rules of Playa Guiones being inside a nature reserve. The most challenging item is there are no more dogs on the beach. Of course no motos on the beach, trash, or bonfires as well.
TWIN 44 is a super fun one which hopefully conveys a ‘real’ look at Nosara this time of year. We have some good weather & happy people, plus some bad weather & what it looks like on the rainy days. Not everyone is unhappy when raining though… Legendary figure Mimi is cooking authentic Tico food, Alex ‘Adub’ Wilksonson is enjoying the plants & creek by his house, Casa Tindaya. There’s a bunch of scenes in this episode & I hope you enjoy it!
Normally October the rainiest month of the year but it seems we got most of our rain out of the way in May, June, July & August.
Anyways, the locals in town enjoying lack of crowds & fun surf. Even Chico Serio is smiling in this video. Get out there & enjoy yourself if you’re in town. The crowds will be back soon enough along with the offshore winds.
Safari Surf School’s Benefit show with G Love & Friends is November 16th & there’s a Meet & Greet hangout at Tierra Magnífica with special music from both Theo Hill & The After Surf Band. Theo Hill is super talented piano player & frequently on TWIN episodes & I call him “Music Theo” & The After Surf Band is Tom, Rhea, Olo Max & myself & frequently playing these soundtracks for TWIN.
Music wise, the early TWIN videos were usually me messing around playing a guitar into computer. Then as new band started practicing our Saturday improv sessions at Olo Alaia were often the music & now these days having fun starting to include my daughter Kaiya & myself sometimes, too.
Music is fun & now that kids are older I’m getting back into it more heavily. I used to play upright bass in a bluegrass band before moving to Costa Rica & now I’m grateful so many talented musicians in town or passing through town.
If you have any original music you want to submit for TWIN soundtrack send it in & we’ll check it out.
This Week In Nosara #40 is late September 2024…Here’s basic outline of this episode:
Some quality surf photos & a couple videos from Kaiya at Surfing Nosara.
Take a look from the air Playa Guiones overlooking Las Huacas, Pelada, North Guiones, Main Street Calle Modelo, J & K sections, South Guiones, Punta Garza, Esperanza & South Las Huacas
Updates from the Playas de Nosara ASADA available to everyone on their Facebook page. They are providing updates about water outages, updates to the system, which areas are to be affected, community updates & answering questions.
The biggest update is water moratorium in place for new water approval letters. The ASADA can not say when this will change because we need to provide 20 year in advance coverage so need new wells & legal processing all to take place
Rich predicts existing construction & properties with water meters like K45 & ones with approved water letters like R6 will become highly sought after. However, there are not many properties with water letters in place
K45 is going on the market for sale (3000m2 with ocean view in K section & a water meter). It is the old Honolei Restaurant & house Brian & Kyle Bombard used to live in. Rich had birthday party there 15 years ago photo with a young Brian in the background & ironically today is Brian’s birthday! Didn’t know about that till after this was done.
Surf footage from Guiones thanks to Kaiya
Nosara Civic Association reminds us to celebrate 203 years of Independence!

Stop by La Roca next time driving into or out of Nosara… Terrific views & great experience
This Week In Nosara #39 is a quick look at surf at Playa Guiones early September & some scenes from life around here plus some brief community updates.
Long time friend Pao Barrera dropped in for her first Nosara Podcast episode to explain the purpose & intentions for Triple Crown of Surf Nosara contests plus explain how & why the Asociacion de Surf Nosara is asking for support from the local community & visitors.
Pao is pleasure to be around, and it is fun to see her growing family evolve while she continues to be a pillar in the community.
She serves as vice president for the Asociacion de Surf Nosara & their main objective is to unite people through surfing to make a difference in the community for a greater good.
They are paying prize $ to winners plus they are getting local children involved in the festivities. They are asking for people to come join in on the fun plus consider anything and everything from financial to gift donations which may help serve as prizes & or benefit local kids. Some local leaders of the surf community are assisting Dreamcatchers Foundation on a regular basis & overall the Asociacion is committed to uniting the community through surfing.
*There’s several ‘Rich rants’ in this episode pertaining to community items; especially about empowering the local Tico populace with the education and skill set systems to acquire higher end jobs and own their own successful businesses and become the future.
Personally I am growing quite tired of people directing anger & frustration about Nosara’s challenges without being part of a solution. Being upset or angry is OK, but direct it to the right direction… The Asociacion de Surf Nosara is doing this & it has my attention a great deal.
The Asociacion de Surf Nosara is happy for anyone & everyone to help any number of ways ranging from financial assistance to used surfboards, games for kids, and even just some ideas &/or helping local kids learn to surf are super appreciated as Pao explains in this episode.
Per usual, I ask 3 favorite restaurants question of Pao plus a bunch more.
If you’re in town get to the contest to participate or just cheer on the folks involved. Shout out to all sponsors and everyone involved looking to help for a greater good.
