NP #81: Kuki Araya; New Idea for Trails, Beaches Reopening Controversy, Plan Regulador Update, Nicoya’s Mayor & Nosara, and more in 45 minutes

In this episode of the Nosara Podcast, Kuki and I enjoy a lively conversation broaching multiple subjects pertaining to Nosara as of today and our future.

We kick off the discussion about the NCA’s trail system and Kuki shares about the idea of making them a main source of mobility. The idea she explains is to have pathways from Bodhi Tree all the way to the river dike pathway.

    Image 1

Next we talk about why the beaches are not reopened in our area but are open elsewhere in the country. At the moment, this is one of the most pressing issues in our community and hopefully our discussion helps people understand where we are at on this subject. Lots of pros and cons and it is an emotional issue for many people.

Further along in the episode we discuss the Plan Regulador, Kuki’s decision to step down as NCA President as of January, the Nosara Food Bank, how Nicoya’s recently elected Mayor believes Nosara can be a model for the world, whether or not Nosara will try again to break away from Nicoya, some election talk about Trump, the move towards national tourism along with several other items.

There is a great deal more we discussed in depth, but we cut this episode down to 45 minutes to help. I hope you enjoy this episode and it helps in some way. Please send in any and all feedback, both good and bad, and know it is appreciated.

NP #80: Aric Ray and Mr. Kind: Being an author in Nosara, his personal story, a new family, and how he is transitioning childhood goals into reality

Aric Ray moved from Florida to Nosara 8 or 9 years ago and is bringing his life full circle. In fact, he’s currently writing children’s books and implementing projects from here in Nosara from ideas which originated decades ago.

He’s proud of his new family and is committed to doing what he loves. It seems like Nosara is allowing Aric to achieve his dreams and this is always inspiring to me. I wish him the best and hope you enjoy getting to know Aric in this Nosara Podcast episode.

NP #79: 25 minutes with Mr. Brandon Richardson

In Brandon Richardson’s initial episode of the Nosara Podcast we discuss Nosara during COVID times, make predictions about the borders and beaches reopening, recovery for Nosara’s smaller and larger businesses, give shout outs to the Nosara Food Bank, why he’s no longer taking waves for granted, his dislikes of social media, and finding positive things to do while learning to prioritize what’s most important in life through this situation.

Brandon has been through many of Nosara’s ups and downs in his time here. He survived the last financial crisis, a major earthquake, dengue, the intense competition and the many challenges of building his business (Wanderlust Realty) and living in a very small town…

But this Coronavirus situation is different. Now he’s out of the water. As you’ll hear in his episode, this proves extra challenging for this avid surfer and spear-fisherman… So I decided to check in with him to see what he’s up to and hear his thoughts.

I hope you enjoy hearing Brandon’s episode!

NP #78: Robert ‘Yogadude’ Busch in 21 minutes; This punk rock musician and author is not your normal yoga instructor. He talks about eating meat, getting angry while surfing, and much more in this episode.

This episode with Robert Busch is a fun interview and I enjoyed getting to know him further. To many, he is known as Yogadude, the author of The Dude Experience, to others he is a punk rock musician, to me he is someone I surfed with a bunch over the years and I didn’t know anything too much about him until our first podcast recording. It turns out he has a great deal to say and is a very interesting person.

    Image 12

The first thing I learned is he seems not to be a typical yoga instructor. He’s very blunt about his behavior now and in the past. He admits to eating meat (but now is changing over towards vegetarian), getting angry in the water when he misses waves, messing up a Beach Dog Cafe open mic night playing punk music, his past with conspiracy theories and all kinds of other things a typical yoga instructor might not do.

For me it was refreshing to hear his honesty, enthusiasm, and authenticity. I hope you enjoy getting to know Robert/Yogadude in this episode and look forward to having back on the Nosara Podcast in the future.

NP #76: Jeff Grosshandler assesses Nosara’s economic situation from COVID-19; Explains our current ‘Nosara time machine,’ Making the most of these of these times, a Chamber of Commerce, plus much more.

Today, April 20th is Jeff Grosshandler’s birthday. This means Jeff turns 40 on 4-20, the 4th month of the year April 2020. Seems pretty funny to me. So I figured we may as well release this episode at 4:20pm EST.

In this 40 minute Nosara Podcast, Jeff Grosshandler discusses COVID-19 Nosara today and the future, why Nosara at the moment is like being in a time machine, he shares insights (ex: Don’t make long term decisions based on short term circumstances), advises everyone to take advantage of these moments, and explains how he is happy about an incoming chamber of commerce for Nosara plus much more in this podcast.

Jeff is often a guest on the Nosara Podcast and one of the few people who are willing to speak on camera about controversial topics. Even when we disagree I always appreciate hearing his take on things.

I enjoyed this episode because it was positive and empowering and his vibe was about a community fully working together, friend and foe alike.
