This episode of the Nosara Podcast features the Nosara Performing Arts Academy (NPAA) owners, Adrienne Fittzmaurice and Hayley MacMillan Ord. They stopped in the studio to explain what the NPAA program is all about.
The NPAA is officially open and well on their way to bringing cultures together teaching classes through the arts.
It is exciting to hear what’s happening and hopefully we as a community can help more children get involved in art programs.
Nosara Jiu Jitsu Coach Daniel Rodriguez is up to something special. Each week in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings a highly dedicated group of students consistently show up for training. Fortunately for all of them, special guest coaches consistently show up in Nosara to help even further.
For example, BJJ Legends Emily Kwok (3x World Champion) and Ryron Gracie (Just google him) have become Nosara staples Coach Daniel and his team get to learn from on a consistent basis.
This past Saturday the 2019 graduation ceremony for Nosara BJJ took place at the Gilded Iguana’s new athletic center. Ryron Gracie and Fernando Moya each attended and took part in the ceremony which made this day extra special for all of the students.
I hope you enjoy this quick video recap. Please make sure to give Coach Daniel a big ‘thanks’ for everything his efforts are leading to. HUGE thanks to Oscar and Ramon and the Gilded Iguana Athletic Center for hosting this event and Nosara Jiu Jitsu classes.
Here’s some pics of the attendees and enjoy the video.
In this podcast you might notice why Jon Mangogna is quickly turning into one of the most well known personal trainers in Nosara. His unique, personalized style of training functions well whether you just want to improve your fitness levels or if you have a specific injury which you may need to rehabilitate from.
We talk a good bit about Nosara too and how Jon enjoys the ability to move freely amongst social circles and the various companies while being able to avoid the typical small town gossip scene. Along the way Jon and I each agree to each expand our horizons a bit with his being riding different surfboards and mine trying out his new health concoction he brought back from his last trip.
Hopefully you enjoy hearing about his journey to, and making a living in, Nosara along with his mental processes and his life right now.
PS – Check the end of the video podcast for Jon showing us ‘The Founder’ which is one of Foundation Training’s principal techniques.
Nosara just got even more interesting for people both young and old. Reason being, Nosara Dirt Track is officially open and now inviting men, women, and children to come and learn how to ride in a safe, healthy environment.
Now the idea of bringing your entire family to a dirt bike track initially seems a little strange, doesn’t it?
However, that is exactly what Mario and Monica (the owners of Nosara Dirt Track) are suggesting you do… And I am too.
Listen to this interview and hear for yourself what they are up to at Nosara Dirt Track.
I feel Nosara Dirt Track is a great spot for team building events, parties, or individuals to have a great time and stay safe doing something ‘different’ and enjoying our little town even more.
Quick testimony: My family has already been there multiple times and I can vouch for Monica and Mario’s claims. Both of our kids and my wife safely learned how to ride there and had a terrific time.
Here in Nosara we are super fortunate to meet all kinds of amazing people who love our community. Since 1998, G Love has been coming to Nosara and has no plans of stopping anytime soon. In fact, for the previous five years, G Love (Garret Dutton) has been headlining to Nosara Acoustic Roots Festival. Each year we try to have this festival the weekend after Thanksgiving and it seems to be growing. The show is to benefit the Nosara Security Association and is the biggest fundraiser of the year.
I got a chance to sit down with Garrett and talk about Nosara and hear some stories about his friends Jack Johnson, Kelly Slater, Donovan Frankenreiter, Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, the Malloy brothers and more. We also had a chance to detail some of his musical influences and motivating factors and life on the road and staying motivated. G shares a story about losing a deal to Beck and much more info you’ll just have to hear in this episode.
I hope you enjoy this one getting to know G Love and appreciate you checking it out.
A couple weeks back I sat down with Mr. Daniel Valverde. Dani is the Pastor for Casa Vida Nosara and a very good friend to the Burnam family. Dani has a very interesting story to tell and most everyone agrees he is a high-quality individual.
In this conversation, we covered a ton of ground ranging from how Dani made it to Nosara from San Jose, the incredible luck he has for high-quality surf each year for the annual ‘Jesus Went’ surf contests, his current ministry activities along with the goals he’s trying to achieve, and how he abandoned his studies in architecture to become a preaching minister plus a ton more. Dani grabs a couple of laughs at my expense as I share the most embarrassing surf story I have while surfing in his contest a couple of years back.
Check out some waves from the Jesus Went 2018 contest:
Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of serving the Nosara community with Dani in multiple arenas and I’m proud he is here following his heart at the highest level. One interesting thing about Dani is how committed his wife is to the ministry and following their collective true calling. In fact, most of the children in the area Nosara area know ‘Miss Maria Jose’ from her many years teaching at Del Mar Academy and/or serving the community via the many opportunities Nosara provides. They have 2 wonderful children and they are easily found surfing many mornings in Guiones.
If you’re looking for a church congregation of the standard Christian variety in Nosara you should consider Casa Vida’s 2 options: The English speaking service is on Sunday’s at the main beach in Guiones right in front of the parking lot. The Spanish speaking service is at 5pm at the Casa Vida Campus grounds. Dani’s congregation has a 501c3 qualified donation strategy in place to help with Mercy Homes, renovations, education and scholarship programs, plus multiple natural disaster or other emergency situations.
