This episode of the Nosara Podcast explains the recent Nosara flooding and explains how people can help whether in town or out of town. An immense debt of gratitude of course goes out to all volunteers who have been serving the community during this challenging time and everyone donating to help replace houses and provide food and clothing.
Mariju Rovira explains what happened and what’s needed, Andrew Saxton explains what he and the Mercy Home teams plan to do in order to replace houses, and attorney Jose Arce explains the funding setup and operation for donations for the replacement Mercy Homes.

Thanks Andy Marin for editing this episode and Luis from Guiones Transports for several photos

NP #25: Diego Cruz: Owner of Guiones Brew Co. and Olivia’s, describes his transition into a kinder surfer and how opening a brewery and restaurant in Nosara, Costa Rica has made him a new man
La versión corta de este podcast tiene subtítulos en español disponibles.
Growth brings pain but pleasure all at the same time. As you will hear in this podcast, Diego Cruz knows this well.

Diego is an entrepreneur from San Jose who made Nosara his home 11 years ago. He claims to suffer from a self described affliction called ‘little guy syndrome’ and believes you reap what you sow while describing karma as a motivating force in his overall, highly pleasant demeanor.

In years past, Diego used to be fiery and argue frequently. He still does sometimes, but now as a business owner and constant local at main break Guiones he’s decidedly more generous with smiles and wave-sharing capacity.
In this podcast Diego explains how this happened and why. He candidly explains how both Guiones Brew Co. and his restaurant Olivia’s came about as well and it is an interesting story.

As you will hear, he states living in Guiones has changed him from a boy into a man and he is forever grateful for his current life and surroundings. However, it was not always this way.

Check out the podcast and give his businesses a try. He’s a good man and I’m happy to call him a friend!

When is it going to stop raining in Nosara?
‘The changing of the seasons is one of the best things about living in Nosara.’
The above quote is something I say a great deal. What I need to add to this statement is that by the end of the season (whether dry or wet) we’re ready for the change to happen. Like now.
As I type this mid October 2018 we are experiencing our 2nd flood of the month. People have been evacuated from their homes and emergency shelters are supplying food and a dry spot to sleep for the many victims of the flood. As usual in Nosara, people are coming together from most every business and area to help others with significant amounts of food, clothing, personal hygiene products, financial assistance, etc.

For those who may not be aware of our seasons: From November through April we have our dry season and May through October is the wet season. September and October are the heaviest months for rain historically and most of the tourist businesses take their much needed breaks and vacations this time of year. Unfortunately, this year there has been a lot of rain in Hojancha which is where the Rio Nosara starts and it has been highly problematic for low areas particularly in Nosara town.
Many thanks to everyone donating towards and helping with the Nosara flood relief efforts!!!
